Ardmore Juvenile GAA Weekly Round-Up

 Minor Hurling

Ardmore 4.15 Tramore 3.12
Ardmore minor hurlers had their first game and win against a tough Tramore team on Wednesday evening. We got a great start and led 1.02 to no score after 10 minutes, with the goal scored by Paudie Foley. However, a lot of bad wides and good scores from Tramore brought them right back into the game and it was 1.03 to 5pts after 20mins. Ardmore picked up again before half time and scored another 1.03 with the goal scored by Matthew Veale. Half time Ardmore led 2.06 to 6 points. In the 2nd half Tramore came right back into it and were only one point behind us with 15mins gone in the half. Thankfully we picked it up for the remainder of the game and scored another 2 goals from Paudie Foley and a cracker from John O'Brien. We finally ran out winners on a scoreline of 4.15 to 3.12. Special mention for Harry Roche Perks who had a great game from start to finish playing at full back.

Team on the night Billy, Paudie Keane, Harry, John Hickey, Fionn, Eoin, Eddie, John Maloney, Eamon, Matthew, Tony, Dominic, Paudie Foley. Subs Sean, Jack, Tommy, John O'Brien & Luke

 U16 Hurling Championship – Ballyduff Upper 0-09 Ardmore 5-12

Our Under 16s continued their great form in Ballyduff, not quite as fluent as previous outings but still a great win. Special mention to John O’Brien who continues to rack up great scores and our youngsters Cathal, Thomas, Harry & James who all played great games. Panel of the Night was Daithi, Logan, Paudie, Jack, Jimmy, Sean Flavin, John o Brien, Charlie, Sean McSweeny, Eoin, Aaron, Padraig, Cathal, Thomas, Harry and James McSweeny.

U8 Blitz Action

A lovely Sunny evening in Clashmore, where there was great excitement with the Minor all Ireland Trophy on Display for the kids to get hold of. Our boys an girls played three great games against Clashmore Red & Greens and Brickeys. We are on our travels again this Wednesday night in Strdbally for an U8 Hurling Blitz.

U8 Hurler’s in Clashmore with Minor Trophy

Camogie Corner

Under 12

Our U12 team took on St. Annes last Tuesday in their semi final on a glorious sunny evening in Ardmore. The girls came out all guns blazing in the first half racking up some great scores. This gave us a strong lead heading into the second half allowing all the girls to get game time. We finished out the match worthy winners at the final whistle.

Under 16

Our U16s hosted Mount Sion last Thursday in a very tough encounter in their league. The city side played some fantastic camogie but unfortunately we lacked the intensity we have shown in previous matches. We missed some valuable scoring opportunities which proved to be detrimental at the final whistle. The game finished up with the visitors claiming the win Mount Sion 6.4 Ardmore 4.3. I’ve no doubt the girls will learn from this and come out even stronger in their game.

Upcoming Fixtures

Dungarvan U14 Footballers playing the Division 3 Football county final against St Mary’s this Wednesday 9th of July at 6:45 in Fraher field. All 5 lads from Ardmore are available for selection Aaron, Colin, Daithí, Sean & Tom.

Ardmore Club Notes: Junior C Match Report – Ardmore 2-17, Kilrossanty 0-19

Friday night lights at Duffcarrick – Where rain and breeze couldn’t dampen the spirits of Ardmore's Junior C team as they kicked off their adult championship season in style, facing off against Kilrossanty on June 27th. The weather might have been misty, but what transpired on the field was anything but foggy!

From the first whistle, Ardmore came out of the blocks flying. With the wind at their backs, the home team charged into an early lead, with Seán Power opening the scoring with a well-taken free. This was just the start of an absolutely sensational performance from Seán, who finished the day with 8 frees and 2 points from play—talk about a dead ball masterclass!

Kilrossanty didn’t roll over easily though. After a slow start, they fought their way back into the game, landing a few points. But just when the momentum seemed to be shifting, Richard Carroll stunned everyone by getting his hurl to a rocket of a long-range free and sending it to the back of the net! That goal had the crowd roaring, and Ardmore were flying high, leading 1-08 to 0-06 at halftime.

Second Half Drama!
If you thought the first half was exciting, the second half was a rollercoaster! Kilrossanty came out with renewed vigour, slashing the deficit down to just two points in the opening minutes. But Ardmore’s full-back trio—Fintan Geaney, Daniel Power, and Keith Hurley—were absolute titans at the back, ensuring Kilrossanty’s forward line couldn’t breach their line. Even when the visitors took a few long-range shots, Conor Moore was there with some brilliant saves.

Then, the cavalry arrived! Dominic Broderick made his adult championship debut and wasted no time, scrapping for breaking ball and sending dangerous deliveries into the square. Kilrossanty’s defense was on the ropes, but somehow they managed to block a couple of goal-bound efforts. The game was a nail-biter all the way through, with each team battling for control. Seán Power kept the scoreboard ticking over, landing crucial frees whenever the pressure was on. With contributions from Liam Lynch, Adam Power, and Michael Coakley from range, Ardmore held firm.

With just a single point between the sides as the game headed into the final minute, Eddie Flavin had one last heroic act. A massive clearance from the defense was pulled down by Eddie himself, who somehow managed to evade his marker, charged toward goal, and buried the sliotar past the Kilrossanty keeper for a crucial goal! That sealed it. Ardmore led 2-17 to 0-19 as referee Timmy Organ blew the final whistle, sending the crowd into a frenzy!

It was a deserved win for Ardmore, and the team showed tremendous grit and determination to see it through. With the Junior A championship kicking off next week, the Junior C team can look ahead with confidence as they gear up for more action in the group stages and possibly the knockout rounds.

Team: Conor Moore; Fintan Geaney; Daniel Power; Keith Hurley; Glenn Lynch; Michael Coakley; Paudie Foley; Jamie Bryan; Liam Lynch; Gerry Reardon; Eddie Flavin; Adam Power; Seán Power; Richard Carroll; Cian Gleeson.
Subs: Christopher Power; Dominic Broderick (for G. Reardon 40 mins); Niall Power (for C. Gleeson 55 mins).

Trip to Tipp

What a day for the Waterford Minor Hurlers as they put on a show in their quest for All-Ireland glory! The atmosphere was absolutely electric at Thurles, with the crowd roaring as Waterford gave it their all. A special mention goes to Cormac Spain, whose injury couldn’t stop him from contributing some breathtaking scores.

Ardmore GAA didn’t miss out on this special day either, organizing a bus trip with over 30 kids and parents, ensuring the future of the club got to experience the thrill of a big-time game. The sight of our young players pucking around on the iconic Thurles sod during halftime says it all—the future is bright!

A huge thanks to the Juvenile Committee for making this unforgettable day possible. Days like these inspire the next generation, and they show what the GAA community is all about.

Up the Déise!

Dungarvan/Ardmore Under 14 Football

We received a walk over from De la salle B this week, we are up against the Nire in a semi final Tuesday evening at 7pm in Dungarvan GAA. All 5 Ardmore boys will be togged out on the evening.

Camogie Notes

Under 12

Our U12 team hosted Tallow last Tuesday in a blustery evening in Ardmore. We knew we were up against it as Tallow are a very strong side but our girls dug deep and there was very little between the teams going in at the break. Even though we worked really hard as a team and every girl gave it their all, Tallow had the slight upper hand at the final whistle.

Under 14

Our U14’s played a challenge match last Sunday against the Ardmore U13 boys on a lovely sunny morning in the village. With siblings on both sides no one wanted to lose out on bragging rights. It was a mighty game of hurling with both teams playing the best they have this year. The girls tore into the game with great heart and determination and it was clear to see why they are topping their table this year with some fantastic skills on display. We finished out the game victorious by one goal but I’ve no doubt there will be a rematch on the cards. Well done to all involved.

Club Notes

 Remembrance

Tribute to Peter Power from Ardmore GAA.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the Power family and friends on the passing of Peter Power. Peter was a cornerstone of hurling development in West Waterford, dedicating countless hours to coaching at CBS Dungarvan and inspiring generations of young players. His influence was pivotal in Waterford’s historic Under-21 All-Ireland Hurling Championship win in 1992, working alongside Tony Mansfield and Joey Carton.

Peter’s leadership shone again in 2012 and 2013 when Dungarvan Colleges secured back-to-back Harty Cups, culminating in an All-Ireland Senior Colleges title in 2013. During this period, Ardmore was proudly represented by Michael Cronin, David Gartland, and Seamus Keating.

At Ardmore GAA, we fondly remember Peter guiding our Junior B team to a dramatic county final victory in 1989, a testament to his commitment and tactical acumen. His legacy is cherished by all who played under him and benefited from his passion for the game.

Healthy Club

The Healthy Club team will be holding a SafeTALK course in the clubhouse on June 17. This is provided free of charge by the HSE and is designed to provide adults with suicide awareness and prevention information. We are pleased to be joined by the Clashmore Healthy club team to provide this to our clubs, our coaches, parents and the wider community. We would encourage as many as possible to register and attend this vital evening. The link to register is below and the code is GAA2025 https://bookwhen.com/sro/e/ev-syuq-20250617183000

Juvenile GAA Club Match Report

Under 11 Football
Our U11 footballers took part in a midweek blitz in Ballinameela, where they played two highly competitive games against St. Oliver’s and Clashmore. There was plenty of great teamwork on display, and the boys gave it their all in both matches. A solid evening’s football all round!

Under 12 Football
Our U12s travelled to Clashmore on Friday evening for what turned out to be a brilliant performance. With 18 players togged out, everyone got a run and contributed to a big team win. There was some excellent attacking football on show, and the lads finished with an impressive scoreline. It’s back to hurling now for this group as the summer schedule kicks in.

U10 / U9 Football
The U9 footballers kicked off their 2025 campaign with their first All-County Go Games blitz on Saturday morning in Dungarvan GAA grounds. An early start helped us dodge the worst of the weather, and the boys put in great performances across three games against The Nire, Stradbally, and the host club Dungarvan. This group blends our U9s and U10s, with a few U8s stepping up—and they all showed serious skill and effort. A great morning’s work!

Camogie Notes

Under 8s & 10s
Our U8 and U10 camogie teams travelled to Abbeyside on Saturday for their first blitz of the season. With three matches each against Abbeyside, Brickey’s, An Rinn, and Dungarvan, it was a busy day with great competition. The U8s had a fantastic turnout and everyone got game time. Meanwhile, our U10s, though tight on numbers, showed real heart and put in some superb performances. It’s clear that the hard work at training is paying off—well done girls! We now look ahead to our next blitz in Cappoquin in June.

Under 8 Camogie

Under 10 Camogie

Under 14 Camogie
Our U14s were narrowly defeated in their league clash with Abbeyside last Tuesday in Ardmore. After a strong first half where we led by a point at the break, Abbeyside struck with two quick goals in the second half to take control. But our girls rallied and closed the gap back to just a single point by full-time. A gutsy performance and we now face Clonea in the final league fixture.

U15 County Development Squad
Well done to Maisie Roche, Sarah Murray, and Lizzie Prendergast who represented Waterford on the U15 County Development Panel in Thomastown last Saturday against Kilkenny. A special congratulations to Lizzie Prendergast who captained the side on the day—fantastic recognition for her dedication and leadership!

Adult Footballers
Our adult men’s footballers wrapped up their league campaign with a hard-fought win over Kill in wet and windy conditions on Saturday evening in Ardmore. After a sluggish start, the lads clicked into gear with big scores from Eddie Flavin (2-2), Seamus Keating (1-2), and Jamie Bryan (11 points, 6 from frees). Kenny Murphy, Jack Keane, and Joe MacNamara also got on the scoreboard. Attention now turns to hurling for the summer, with the football championship resuming in September—where we’ll be facing Ballinameela, The Nire, and Affane in the group stages.

Adult Hurling

Our Senior Hurling Team put in a strong showing in the league despite being severely hampered by injuries and illness, ultimately falling short to Roanmore on Wednesday night. The final scoreline of 2-20 to 0-16 doesn’t fully reflect the commitment and quality shown across the field in tough circumstances. After a shaky opening 15 minutes where we were down 7 points to 2, we went in 13 points to 5 down at half time. A much stronger showing in the second half, we went toe to toe with them in the third quarter matching them 5 points a piece in this 15 minute period. The last quarter saw Roanmore ring the changes and we were outscored by 2-2 to 0-5 in that period. While we lost it was an industrious enough performance with a lot of good ball being fed into the full forward line. We had three goal chances in the second half which if converted could have made this a much tighter affair scorers were S. Keating (0-5, 0-3f), J O’Brien (0-4), K Murphy (0-3), L Lynch (0-2, 0-1 sideline) and E Flavin (0-1). We turned over a lot of ball which was a good indication of the work rate.

Meanwhile, our Junior team enjoyed a good run-out in a challenge game against the Geraldines on Saturday evening. A solid all-round team performance saw them claim a 1-20 to 0-14 victory — a good boost ahead of their upcoming fixtures.

Juvenile Section

U14 Football Championship
The third round of the U14 football championship saw Cappoquin host Dungarvan on Wednesday 12th. Local lads Daithí Power, Seán Flavin, Aaron Troy, and Tom Howard all played a key role in what turned out to be an impressive victory. After a tight first half, which ended 0-6 to 0-4 in favour of Cappoquin, our side came flying out after the break. A burst of 3 goals and several points early in the second half turned the tide and sealed a commanding 3-10 to 1-5 win.

🗓 Next up: vs Erin's Own on Monday 19th down in the city.

U12 Football

Our U12s hosted The Brickies last Friday in Ardmore in glorious sunshine. With 15 players togged out, everyone enjoyed plenty of game time in a match full of attacking football and great scores. The team continues to perform strongly in the league and hopes remain high for a place in the final later this year.

🗓 Next fixture: Away to Clashmore this coming Friday evening.

U11 Football

Our U11s are gearing up for their football blitz this Wednesday evening at 6:30pm in Ballinameela. Best of luck to all involved!

U10 Hurling Blitz

Our U10 hurlers had their latest outing in a blitz hosted by Dungarvan GAA on Tuesday last. Taking on Ballyduff Upper and the hosts themselves, our 13 players gave it their all – even loaning a few players to the opposition to ensure everyone got game time. Despite many of the boys still recovering from their First Holy Communion celebrations, they showed fantastic spirit and determination.

👏 Big thanks to the boys who sportingly lined out for the opposition!

🗓 Looking ahead:

  • U9s play their first football blitz of the season at Fraher Field this Saturday

  • U10s back in action the following Monday evening

Camogie Corner

U8 & U10 Camogie

Our youngest camogie players have been training hard since April, and they’re now gearing up for their first blitz of the season in Abbeyside on Saturday, May 25th. Great excitement ahead!

U14 Camogie

A thrilling game unfolded in Clashmore last Tuesday evening as our U14 girls took on a powerful Lismore side. With both teams in fine form, it was a tight and skilful battle. In the end, our girls edged it by the narrowest of margins, sealing a 1-3 to 1-2 victory thanks to tremendous teamwork and resilience.

🗓 Next game: vs Abbeyside in Ardmore on Tuesday, May 20th

💪 Thanks to all players, coaches, volunteers, and parents for their continued commitment and support across every level of the club. Here’s to another great week of GAA action!

Our Under 11 hurlers travelled to Aglish on Monday evening for a hurling blitz, playing two highly competitive games against Fourmilewater and St. Olivers. The team continues to show fantastic improvement week on week, and it’s great to see some of our young girls contributing so strongly to the squad’s performance. Well done to all involved!

Under 12 Hurling

The Under 12 team made the trip to Clashmore on Friday the 9th for a league fixture. In what was a high-scoring and exciting match, our lads delivered a great team performance with plenty of goals and fine points taken. The hard work at training is really starting to shine through, with noticeable improvements in high catching, striking, hooking, and blocking.
Next up is a return to football, as the Under 12s face the Brickies this Friday evening in Ardmore at 6.30pm.

Minor Hurling

Our Minor hurlers were in action on Thursday night, May 8th, where they came up just short against Stradbally in a tight and hard-fought encounter. The final scoreline was 1-18 to 3-09, with little separating the sides throughout. It was a tense contest with plenty of heart and commitment shown—plenty of positives to build on as the season progresses.

Under 12 Camogie

St. Declan’s Under 12 camogie team played out a thrilling game against Gaultir on Tuesday, May 6th in glorious sunshine. The sides were evenly matched throughout, but unfortunately our girls were narrowly beaten by just a single point at the final whistle. A huge positive was the number of players involved—22 girls togged out on the day, which is a brilliant sign for the future. Round 4 of the league is set for May 27th against Tallow, and a challenge match will be arranged in the meantime to keep the momentum going.

Under 14 Camogie

Our Under 14 camogie team are in action again this Tuesday, May 13th, when they take on Lismore in Round 3 of the league. Throw-in is at 6.30pm in Clashmore. Best of luck to the girls and their mentors.

Under 16 Camogie

The Under 16s began their season last Thursday in Ardmore with a strong performance against a powerful Lismore team. Despite the 4-6 to 0-12 defeat, the final score didn’t reflect the close contest. The team’s work rate and determination were exceptional, and the commitment shown in training is clearly paying off on the pitch. Their next outing will be against Abbeyside in the coming round of the championship.

Adult Hurling

Our adult hurlers secured their first win of the league campaign with a thrilling one-point victory over St. Mary’s Touraneena in Round Friday 9th of May. In a game full of intensity and fine scoring, the final score read 4-15 to 2-20.

Trailing 2-8 to 2-7 at half-time, the team dug deep in the second half to turn the tide. The final stages were nervy as St. Mary’s clawed back with a series of converted frees—Eoin Kearns landing 10 points from placed balls (including 7 frees in the last 15 minutes). Nonetheless, our lads showed resilience to see the game out.

Scorers:

  • Oisín O’Dwyer 0-2 (superb throughout)

  • Luke Veale 1-0

  • John O’Brien 1-2

  • Kenny Murphy 0-5

  • Joe Mc 1-0

  • Seamus Keating 1-5 (0-4 frees)

  • Adam Power 1-0

Round 3 sees us travel to face Roanmore on Wednesday 14th.

🌞 Intermediate Football League Action – Ardmore vs Fenor

Our intermediate footballers were back in action last Saturday evening, taking on Fenor in glorious sunshine at 6pm. The lads came out of the blocks firing and led at the break with a scoreline of 2-03 to 0-08. First-half highlights included a fine 1-1 from John O’Brien, a well-taken goal from Sean Power, and points from Liam Lynch and Seamus Prendergast.

Unfortunately, the evening took a tough turn on the injury front, with Kenny Murphy going off in the opening minute, followed by four more injury setbacks as the game wore on. Despite a battling effort, we only managed three points in the second half, with scores from Liam Lynch, Michael Coakley, and Sean Power. Fenor found their rhythm late on, adding 12 points to their tally, including two cracking efforts from distance.

Plenty of positives to take, and a great effort all around. We look forward to rounding off the league at home against Kill on Friday, May 24th at 7pm. Come out and show your support!

🏃‍♂️ U10 Blitz Report – Football & Hurling Fun!

It was a busy and brilliant few weeks for our U10s! First up was the football blitz held in sunny Cappoquin last Monday evening, following on from their hurling blitz in Aglish two weeks prior.

In hurling, we faced St. Oliver’s and Portlaw. St. Oliver’s put in a strong showing, but our boys dug deep and bounced back to deliver a spirited and exciting performance against Portlaw — great resilience shown all round!

In football, we packed in three action-filled matches against St. Oliver’s, Clashmore, and Cappoquin. The lads gave it everything — with great skill, effort, and teamwork on display throughout. Their hard work at training is clearly paying off, and they’re growing in confidence with every game. A fantastic start to what promises to be a great season!

🏑 U12 Hurling – Ardmore vs Abbeyside

Friday, May 2nd saw our U12 hurlers take on Abbeyside in a competitive and entertaining clash under a clear blue sky. With all 17 players seeing game time, it was a brilliant team effort from start to finish.

The lads impressed with some excellent scores and slick skills throughout. Defensively, there was great work on hooking, blocking, and general pressure — a sign of real progress. Our midfielders were everywhere, linking play and chipping in with scores, while the forwards kept the scoreboard ticking over. This group is improving every week, and the future looks very bright!

Fixtures continue weekly with alternating hurling and football — so plenty more action to come!

🌟 U8 Blitz – First Big Day Out!

On Saturday, April 26th, our U8 boys and girls took centre stage at the Cappoquin Logistics-sponsored blitz at Fraher Field — and what a morning it was! The sun was shining, the pitch was buzzing, and our young stars shone bright.

Playing three lively matches, our players threw themselves into every tackle, kick, and pass. Many of these kids have just made the leap from the nursery group, and they took it all in stride — what a way to experience their first big blitz!

It was a proud day for coaches, parents, and the club, and with more blitzes to come this summer, this group is off to a flying start!

👶 Nursery Group – Our Future Stars!

Our Under 6 boys and girls are continuing to thrive every Sunday morning at Well Kids, with sessions starting at 10:30am. These fun-filled mornings are full of energy, laughter, and the first steps into the world of Gaelic games!

It’s fantastic to see their confidence grow week by week — with every kick, run, and cheer building a love for sport and teamwork. A big thank you to our brilliant coaches and supportive parents who make these sessions so enjoyable.

New boys and girls are always welcome — just come along on Sunday at 10:30am and join the fun! 🌟

🔵 U14 Football Championship:

On a gloriously sunny day in Bonmahon, the U14 football championship began with four Ardmore players proudly lining out for the Division 3 Dungarvan team vs. St. Mary's.

Colin Breen (full back), Seán Flavin (centre back), Tom Howard (half back), and Daithí Power (midfield) all made excellent contributions in a tightly contested match. Despite Dungarvan dominating possession, a few missed chances left the sides level at half time. St. Mary's pulled ahead early in the second half, and although Dungarvan staged a strong comeback, they just fell short in the final minutes. Great effort from all four Ardmore lads – promising signs for the rounds ahead!

A CHAIRMANS TRIBUTE, ON BEHALF OF DEUGLÁN NAOFA GAA CLUB

TO THE LATE

MIKE HENNESSY (RIP) AND MATT FAHERTY (RIP)

The late Mike Hennessy (RIP)

The late Matt Faherty (RIP)

It is said that the strength of a community is measured by its people, and this came to the fore in recent days as the community of Ardmore and its environs bade a fond farewell to two giants of our community who have gone to their eternal rest.

A quote from Coretta Scott King (wife of Martin Luther King junior) says "The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” The Hennessy name is a cornerstone of our club down through the generations and while we knew our good friend Mike Hennessy was battling to win his corner, the village and community were numbed when the news broke that Mike (Mikeen) Hennessy had passed away. From that moment the club and community rallied to support the family, and this was so evident as people from all corners attended his funeral mass at St Declan’s Church and at his graveside on Saturday.

Mike was a people person who embraced all ages, and young and old alike gathered to mourn and celebrate this man’s life. Mike, along with all his brothers played with Ardmore GAA and the gene of this family has inspired many winning teams down through the years. Mike was a true sportsman with his passion being Waterford Hurling and Manchester United. Mike was part of the great football team of the 70’s in Ardmore where he won many Phelan Cup finals and a Senior Football County final in 1977. While Hurling was on the up in Ardmore, Mike won Junior County titles in 1979 and 1989. The upward curve of Ardmore Hurling took off from there and this is written in the history books of the great underage successes along with Junior Intermediate and Senior Hurling successes for many years.

Mike was equally an excellent runner and also took to cycling as a hobby, all this evident in his involvement with West Waterford Athletics Club and as chief organizer of the WWAC Summer 5-mile race at Ardmore. As for his cycling, he took on many a charity cycle with his friends in Ardmore and as we all know, a very competitive man he was. There are so many good things to write about Mike and his family as all are equally such wonderful people.

On Friday night more sad news filtered through that another great of Ardmore, Matt Faherty, Mike’s neighbour on College Road, had passed away. While writing about this mighty man, I’m compelled to hone in on the wonderful years of Matt Faherty Bus and Taxi Hire, his business which he ran from his home at College Road. Matt, equally an avid sports supporter will be remembered by a generation of kids and their parents as he transported them to and from Ardmore to the secondary schools in Dungarvan. In the past months while the families of Ardmore and Grange were battling to have their kids picked up in a safe and practical environment, as parents of children who were once of school going ages, we reflect on how lucky we were to have had Matt Faherty Bus Services to ferry our kids to school both National & Secondary in years gone by.

Down through the years Matt Faherty sponsored many an underage Tournament at Deuglán Naofa GAA Club for which we were always thankful as those were fun days as Matt always stayed to watch matches and would always look for the standout players on the day. Both National Schools (Ardmore/Grange) would have booked Matt for many a sporting and recreational day out. We all have special stories of being on Matts bus, and while not giving away any secrets he was a man of time keeping, especially in getting home after an event or a social occasion. Many reading this, along with the great Mike Hennessy (RIP), would have been culprits for such delays. His great and loyal friend Seamus "Vealer" Veale will have many such stories as he and Matt were very close friends. Matt was also the go-to Bus driver for the secondary schools of Dungarvan and scripter of this reflection can fondly remember the many years where Matt ferried lads to many College games.

I am also going to hone in on the great years of Dungarvan Colleges Harty Cup, St. Augustine's and CBS respective All-Ireland winning teams. Matt ferried the Harty Cup winners of 2012 and again in 2013 where Dungarvan Colleges went a step further to win the Dr. Croke Cup in the Senior Colleges All-Ireland overcoming Kilkenny CBS in the final. Matt was especially honoured as Ardmore GAA had three lads as part of this panel. That same year the CBS won the All-Ireland B Hurling final and St Augustine's won the All-Ireland C Football final, with both teams again hosting Ardmore Club players. Matt was very proud to be driver for those three great wins in 2013. This is only a snippet of the writer's pen picture of Matt Faherty's link to generations of families within our Club and Community.

As I mentioned at the outset of these few words, we have lost two great men in our community this past week. As we mourn their loss, we need to hold people like this close to our hearts as the likes of Mike Hennessy and Matt Faherty are the fabric that holds a community together.

Rest In Peace Gentleman - Forever in Our Memory

Nick Keating, Chairman, Deuglán Naofa GAA, November 2024

CONDOLENCES

A veil of sadness descended over College Road and the extended Ardmore and Grange Community last week with the news of the sad passing of our friend and loyal Deuglán Naofa clubman Michael (Mike) Hennessy. Mike, his siblings and their children have been part of the bedrock of our club for decades, both on and off the pitch. He was part of the famous Ardmore side that won the Senior football championship in 1977, playing alongside brothers Pat, Johnny and Declan in that final. Two years later he played a huge part in a team that brought County Junior Hurling honours back to the village, togging out in the company of brothers Johnny and Richie on that occasion. After hanging up his boots, Mike continued his love of the GAA from the sidelines and was to be seen donning the blue and white wherever a whistle was blown to announce an Ardmore game. All in the club would like to extend deepest sympathy to Mike’s wife Breda, his children Lorraine, Jamie and their partners, Mike’s brothers and sisters and the extended proud Hennessy family.

Further sad news was received along the road just a few days later with the death of another Ardmore legend, Matt Faherty. There’s few among us that weren’t passengers of Matt at some point in decades gone by as he ferried the villagers county and country wide. The sympathy of the club is with Matt’s wife Noreen, his son Martin and the extended Faherty family at this time.

Under 13 C County Champions

Our U13 team took on Cappoquin last Saturday in the Cup final hoping to maintain their unbeaten record in what was a fantastic season to date for this bunch of girls. We knew heading to Colligan that we faced very tough opponents in Cappoquin and we had to produce some great camogie to come out on top. The first half proved just that when we went in at the break ahead with only a goal separating the two teams, after a rousing half time talk from team managers Ciarán and Barry the girls flew into the second half and refused to give up their lead, with some fantastic scores coming from Mary Kate Keevers, Natasha Broderick and Ella O’Brien.

Overall the girls played brilliantly as a team throughout and proved worthy winners on a scoreline of 1.3 to 2 points. Well done to our team captains Aoibh Foley and Saoirse Kinsella and to our mighty team. We would also like to say a special thank you to our coaches Ciarán Foley and Barry Kinsella and Sabrina Foley for all their hard work throughout the year. Team was as follows; Meadhbh Dunne, Kate Hennessy, Emily Hennessy, Eabha Beresford, Meera Nair, Mary Kate Keevers, Elizabeth Sellars, Saoirse Kinsella, Natasha Broderick, Kathryn O’ Connell, Ella O’ Brien, Aoibh Foley, Faye Power, Roisin Ui Dhroma, Grace O’ Neill, Caitlin Begley, Laura Beausang, Eline Tobin, Chloe Webster.

Camogie Under 15 C County Champions

Our U15s made the journey to the SETU Arena last Sunday to take on Portlaw in the U15 C county final. The girls unfortunately were slow to settle into the game in the first half and failed to capitalise on the strong wind on their backs, they headed into the dressing room at half time 6 points down. However after an encouraging speech by management at half time they took to the pitch in the second half with a new sense of hunger and will to win, with some brilliant scores coming from Maisie Roche, Charlie Fitzgerald and Ava O’Keeffe. After a superb team effort, the girls finished up victorious at the final whistle on a scoreline of 6.2 to 4.0. We would like to say a massive thank you to all the girls for training so hard all year and to the management of Declan Prendergast, Mike Murray, Conor Beausang, James Roche, Michelle O’ Neill and Lindsey Prendergast for all their hard work and dedication to this team. We would also like to thank the county board for their superb work organising the finals, the referee on the day and the SETU Arena for providing such impeccable facilities.

Minor Footballers County Divisional Champions!

In a wild and windy Kill GAA field last Sunday morning, our minors overcame the conditions to emerge as County Minor Champions against strong challengers St. Mollerans. Exactly four weeks ago in one of the round fixtures of this competition, Mollerans beat us convincingly and it is an absolute credit to players and managers alike to turn the tide in the manner they did last Sunday morning. Ardmore were playing against the best of Storm Ashley in the first half but despite her best force, they got off to a great start scoring 1-1 in the early stages. Fifteen minutes in Mollerans had matched this and if it wasn’t for some great goalkeeping from Mochara Fraher, the opposition would have had more than a 1-2 to 1-1 lead at half-time, with Ardmore missing a few chances leading into the break. Mollerans made a sprightly start to the second half scoring 3 points to go 4 up in the first ten minutes. But at this point of the game our boys found a new gear and started to get the better of the exchanges adding two goals and six points in the last twenty minutes, with two red cards for Mollerans adding to their woes. The final whistle saw a double score difference between the sides on a scoreline of Ardmore 3-7 to Mollerans 1-5 – a fantastic and deserving win for the boys and a great end to the season. Congratulations to all involved!

Panel: Mochara Fraher, Charlie Power, Seán Hayden, John Hickey, John Moloney, Tony Quirke, Luke Hennessy, David O'Brien, Fionn O’Carroll(captain), Eddie Power, Pádraig Foley, Matthew Veale, Cormac Mooney, Paudie Keane, Dominic Broderick, Billy Broderick, Eamon Foley, Jimmy Keevers, Jack Gleeson, Jack Ahearne, Harry Roch-Perks, Richard Mac Suibhne, Eoin Keevers. Juvenile Update

Our U7s to U9s welcomed their GAA friends from Fr. O’Neill’s for an end of season friendly game last Saturday morning in Ardmore. Once again, great to see the improvement over the season and the lads played with great spirit as they always do. This event brought the curtain down on the season for this group of over twenty players, who have enjoyed 26 training sessions and nearly as many blitzes this year. Thanks to Paul Casey, Patrick Conway, Damien Lenihan and Niall O’Brien for supporting and mentoring this group this year. The U10-U12s will have a similar ceremonial end to the season this Wednesday evening with a friendly game against Brickeys. After the recent successes in the hurling and football grading finals enjoyed by this group, they will be hoping to end the season on a high note.

Camogie Under 13

Our U13 team took on St. Molleran’s away last Saturday morning in the next round of the league. It was a very tough game and the girls done extremely well to come away with the win at the final whistle. This team are unbeaten so far this year and have the county final well within their sights.

Camogie Under 15

Our Under 15s faced a strong Dungarvan side last Sunday morning away in their home grounds. After a tough battle on a very windy day our girls pulled a solid performance out of the bag and finished out the game with a win on a scoreline of 3.6 to 1.5. They will now take on Portlaw in the county final next Sunday 27th in the SETU Arena at 11.30am.

Minor Footballers Advance to Divisional Final

Great news emerged from Clashmore pitch last Sunday morning when our minors held on to secure the win over Affane/Cappoquin on a scoreline of 3-9 to 3-7 in the semi-final of the division. The opponents had beaten us in the earlier rounds of the championship when we had a number of key players absent through injury who have now returned to fitness. Ardmore were 2 points behind early on when Cormac Mooney hit the net and took the lead for us. The lads drove on well towards half time at which point we lead by 2-8 to 1-5.  We moved further ahead and lead by 9 points at one point in the second half and this lead stood up well in the latter stages of the game. Unfortunately, injuries took their toll during this half when Pádraig Foley and Harry Roch-Perks had both to come off and Affane/Cappoquin fought their way back into the game scoring two goals in quick succession. However, it was too late for the opposition to steal the win at this stage and the whistle came just in time for a good win for Ardmore that earns us a place in a divisional final against Mollerans – date and time to be confirmed but likely to be this weekend. Best of luck to the lads and their mentors from all in the club!!

Juvenile Update

We are delighted to be hosting an U12 team from Boherlahan Dualla, Tipperary next weekend for a friendly game as we approach the end of the season. The visitors are coached by Eoin O’Connor who some of you may remember played football for 3 seasons with Ardmore and is still a very frequent visitor to the village and friend of our club! The game is at 11 o'clock in Ardmore on Saturday morning.

Our 2024 nursery group graduated with honours last Sunday morning, with treats and certs to mark the occasion, after a great season of learning, development and most of all fun! Well done to all the kids and parents who took part in the sessions over Summer Sunday mornings and thank you to Austin Flavin and Patrick Conway and all their assistants for mentoring this group. Looking forward to seeing you all back in the pitch next year.

Camogie Under 13

Our U13 team took on Tallow last Saturday morning in the fourth round of the league. Even though we were low on numbers on the day the girls battled extremely hard and fought for every ball finishing out convincing winners in the end. This team are really gelling well and have maintained their winning streak so far this year which is a testament to the great work the girls and management are putting in at training. Well done girls.

Camogie Under 15

Our Under 15s faced a strong De La Salle side Sunday morning at our home grounds. We knew we were in for a tough match against the city side and the game did not disappoint. Both sides battled hard and matched each other score for score. Our girls however dug extremely deep and pulled a great victory out of the bag after a very close encounter.

Minor Football Championship

In one of the few fixtures that didn’t fall fowl to the weather at the weekend, Deuglán Naofa minors played Portaw/Ballyduff in Ardmore last Sunday morning in their football championship. A series of seven goals saw the lads come away with a great win at the end of 60 minutes. It was a great team effort that earns the team a place in the championship semi-final against Affane.
