Ardmore Club Notes: Junior C Match Report – Ardmore 2-17, Kilrossanty 0-19

Friday night lights at Duffcarrick – Where rain and breeze couldn’t dampen the spirits of Ardmore's Junior C team as they kicked off their adult championship season in style, facing off against Kilrossanty on June 27th. The weather might have been misty, but what transpired on the field was anything but foggy!

From the first whistle, Ardmore came out of the blocks flying. With the wind at their backs, the home team charged into an early lead, with Seán Power opening the scoring with a well-taken free. This was just the start of an absolutely sensational performance from Seán, who finished the day with 8 frees and 2 points from play—talk about a dead ball masterclass!

Kilrossanty didn’t roll over easily though. After a slow start, they fought their way back into the game, landing a few points. But just when the momentum seemed to be shifting, Richard Carroll stunned everyone by getting his hurl to a rocket of a long-range free and sending it to the back of the net! That goal had the crowd roaring, and Ardmore were flying high, leading 1-08 to 0-06 at halftime.

Second Half Drama!
If you thought the first half was exciting, the second half was a rollercoaster! Kilrossanty came out with renewed vigour, slashing the deficit down to just two points in the opening minutes. But Ardmore’s full-back trio—Fintan Geaney, Daniel Power, and Keith Hurley—were absolute titans at the back, ensuring Kilrossanty’s forward line couldn’t breach their line. Even when the visitors took a few long-range shots, Conor Moore was there with some brilliant saves.

Then, the cavalry arrived! Dominic Broderick made his adult championship debut and wasted no time, scrapping for breaking ball and sending dangerous deliveries into the square. Kilrossanty’s defense was on the ropes, but somehow they managed to block a couple of goal-bound efforts. The game was a nail-biter all the way through, with each team battling for control. Seán Power kept the scoreboard ticking over, landing crucial frees whenever the pressure was on. With contributions from Liam Lynch, Adam Power, and Michael Coakley from range, Ardmore held firm.

With just a single point between the sides as the game headed into the final minute, Eddie Flavin had one last heroic act. A massive clearance from the defense was pulled down by Eddie himself, who somehow managed to evade his marker, charged toward goal, and buried the sliotar past the Kilrossanty keeper for a crucial goal! That sealed it. Ardmore led 2-17 to 0-19 as referee Timmy Organ blew the final whistle, sending the crowd into a frenzy!

It was a deserved win for Ardmore, and the team showed tremendous grit and determination to see it through. With the Junior A championship kicking off next week, the Junior C team can look ahead with confidence as they gear up for more action in the group stages and possibly the knockout rounds.
