Intermediate Hurling

Deuglán Naofa secured their first points of the championship with a convincing win over Colligan in Cappoquin last Saturday evening. Ardmore had the better of the exchanges from the whistle and were the better team throughout. As he did in the league final a few weeks ago, Seamus Keating goaled twice, accumulating a score of 2-4 in total in the game. Ardmore enjoyed an 11 point lead at half time, on a scoreline of 2-11 to 0-6. Ardmore defended their lead well in the second half despite an enhanced effort from Colligan who added 11 points to their tally in the second half with Ardmore adding just 7. The final scoreline of 2-18 to 0-17 could be important if points difference will be relied on at the business end of the championship. Next up for us in the championship is An Rinn this coming week with the match schedule to be played in Dungarvan at 7pm this Friday evening.

Minor Hurling Championship

Ardmore had a great win in our opening game of this championship beating Tramore 3-18 to 1-11.  Our second game proved more challenging against a strong Naomh Bríd side who took their chances well and we were left with too much of a gap to bridge in the last quarter. This week we will look to get back to winning ways when we travel to Portlaw this Wednesday evening to take on the homeside.

Déise Draw

Congratulations to Fiona Levins who was Ardmore’s sole winner in the first of the 2024 Déise Draws last Friday. Fiona won one the €250 – not a bad return on investment!

Juvenile Update

The U7s played a football /hurling mini blitz against St. Olivers last Wednesday evening in Ardmore. This Wednesday the group will take part in a football blitz to be hosted by Brickeys.

The U15s played their second game of the hurling championship last Monday evening in Ardmore against Dungarvan. In an age group where we struggle with numbers our boys did very well for much of this game and will be hoping for their first win of the championship when they play Tramore this week.

Deuglán Naofa and St. Olivers  U7s at the recent blitz hosted by Ardmore

Camogie U12

Our Under 12 team had a fantastic win over St. Mollerans last Thursday in our home grounds. Considering the majority of the team had attended Cúl Camps all week, they didn’t show any signs of fatigue and gave a mighty display of skill and determination to come away with a well earned victory. It’s back to the training pitch now to prepare for their next game. Well done girls.

Camogie Under 14

Our Under 14 team played Ballyduff Lower last Sunday in the Under 14B semi-final in what turned out to be a pulsating match in Clashmore. We knew that we wouldn’t have it easy as Ballyduff Lower are a very strong side but this challenge did not phase our girls and they played superbly, working really hard as a team. At half time we were ahead by 1.5 to 3 points. Taking to the pitch in the second half the girls really dug deep and produced some great scores finishing out the game on a scoreline of 4.6 to 4 points. Congratulations to all the girls and management and we now look forward to getting back to the training pitch to prepare for the final.

Camogie Training

Training will take place for all ages Tuesday at 6.30pm, all new members are welcome.

Intermediate Hurling Championship

Ardmore played Ballyduff Upper in their first-round match in Cappoquin on Saturday evening. Playing against the wind the first half, Ardmore had just three points on the board halfway through the first half, against Ballyduff Upper 1-6.  Seamus Keating had a decent goal chance denied but his converted frees and points by Liam Lynch and James Kennedy kept them in touch to leave the score at half time 1-12 to 0-7. Seamus Prendergast and Seamus Keating combined to score a half dozen points between them early in the second half but their chasing of the game wasn’t to be enough with Ballyduff Upper second goal finally putting it out of reach in added time, despite a gallant second half effort by our lads.

Next weekend we return to Cappoquin pitch take on Colligan in our second round match. Colligan got their championship off to a good start with their win against An Rinn at the weekend. The game is set for 5pm on Saturday. Come along and show your support.

Second Win in Junior C Hurling Championship

This group built on their win against Shamrocks last week with another fine win against Ballysaggart at the weekend on a scoreline of 2-17 to 0-13.This time the scoring sensation was none other than Joe McNamara who clocked up 1-5 on the scoreboard. Well done to Joe and all the squad. Their next match will be against Dungarvan next Sunday at 12 in Ardmore.

Juvenile Update

The U7s took to the field in style in Ballinameela last Wednesday evening and played three great games of hurling against St. Pats, St. Olivers and Clashmore. Well done to this group who are a bundle of enthusiasm!

The U10s played a hurling and football mixed blitz in Ardmore last Saturday morning with plenty game time for all that were available. It was hurling this week for the U12s who travelled to the home of hurling in Ballygunner. The team put in a fine performance and were just a few points shy for the win at the whistle.

The U15s had a hurling championship game against St. Marys last week in Kill.  St. Marys saw three players red carded during the match in a game that will only be remembered for disciplinary standards that fell well below expectation on the part of St. Marys. The U15s play Dungarvan this week where they will look to record the first win of the championship.

CÚL CAMP takes place in Ardmore this week – hope all our juvenile players get the best of enjoyment from the annual fun fest!

Camogie U10

We hosted our own Under 10 blitz on a beautiful sunny morning last Saturday in Ardmore. We had three very competitive games against Butlerstown, Gailtir and Cappoquin and our girls played extremely well getting stuck in from the very start. They have progressed a lot since their first blitz and are really coming together as a team. Our Under 8’s had no blitz on the day due to low numbers from the visiting clubs, they did however take part in training for an hour and still got their very valuable goodie bags.

Camogie Under 16

Our Under 16 team lost out to Abbeyside last Tuesday in a very tough game of camogie. We will face Mount Sion next in their home grounds on Tuesday 9th of July at 6.30pm.

Camogie Training

Training will take place for all ages Tuesday at 6.30pm, all new members are welcome.

All County Hurling League Division 7 CHAMPIONS

Two first half goals from Seamus Keating set Ardmore up for a fine win against Ballydurn in the hurling league final last Monday evening in Colligan. Ardmore were the better team throughout and were thoroughly deserving of their win.  Ardmore led by four points at the end of the first half, but Ballydurn were slow off the mark in the second half and the Ardmore lads used this opportunity to build on the lead and eventually ran out 10 point winners on a scoreline of 2-14 to 1-14. Joint captains, Pádraig Foley and Jack Keane lifted the cup, the first of many we hope this year! The group now turn attention to the Intermediate Hurling Championship when they take on Ballyduff Upper this Saturday evening at 6 o’clock in Cappoquin. We wish the group continued success in the championship.

Deuglán Naofa - All County Hurling League Division 7 CHAMPIONS 2024

Win in Opening Round of Junior C Hurling

Oisín O’Dwyer was a scoring sensation in the first Junior C game of the championship last Friday evening when the lads took on Shamrocks. Oisín scored 1-8 of the 2-12 scored by Ardmore, who edged ahead of Shamrocks in the last ten minutes to win by two points.

Minor Hurling Championship

Best of luck to our Minor Hurlers who take on Tramore on Wednesday evening in Ardmore at 7.30pm in the championship. Come along and show your support for the lads!

Works on our Club and Community Car Park Complete

Phase 2 (surfacing) of the car park was completed last week with Phase 3 (lining) to be completed in 3-4 weeks’ time as the new tar and chip surface needs settling time.  During the coming months, the garden area and other auxiliary jobs will be advanced. Already, there is great acknowledgement of the work and the benefits it will bring for those attending matches and training. Thanks to everyone who has supported this project.

FINAL CALL – PURCHASE YOUR TICKET NOW All those associated in anyway with Deuglán Naofa will note the vast activity in the club in the last twelve months. New peripheral fencing, initiatives under healthy club, new training tops for the juvenile players and gear for the adults, and of course the car park project. There has been significant outlay to cover all of this and to fund the normal day to day running costs. We also have other works in the pipeline as set out in the Club Plan. Please support our club by purchasing a Déise Draw ticket! With €63 from each sale staying with the club, there’s no better way to pledge your support.

Juvenile Update

The U9s played a football blitz in Dungarvan on Saturday morning with plenty game time for all that travelled. It was football this week also for the U11s who took part in a two game blitz on Monday evening in Cappoquin. These groups are improving with every game. The U12s game against Ferrybank was postponed as Ferrybank couldn’t play so this group enjoyed a break from game time this week. The U15s kick off their hurling championship this week and we wish them the best of luck in their first game against St. Mary’s.

Camogie U8 & U10

We will host our own Under 8 and 10 blitz this Saturday 6th of July with teams travelling from Cappoquin, Butlerstown and Gailltir and will no doubt be a lovely morning of camogie.

Camogie Under 14

Our Under 14s travelled to Ballyduff Lower last Friday evening and after a tough first half the home team were ahead 2.5 to no score at half time. However, after a motivational team talk from management, the girls took up the challenge and played out of their skin scoring 3.6 in the second half and finishing out the match with a draw, 3.6 a piece. Well done girls.

Camogie Under 16

Our Under 16 team will face Abbeyside on Tuesday the 2nd of July at 6.30pm in our home grounds.

Ground works are now complete on this project and this week we open the gates to surfacing crews who will put the finishing touches to what will be a long-awaited fit for purpose car park serving the club and community. To facilitate the works, the club grounds are closed for all activity until Thursday. Thanks to everyone for getting behind this project.

Signage Sponsorship

We are delighted to say there is significant support for Deuglán Naofa’s signage sponsorship campaign with Phase 1 now near completion. The proposal provides a great opportunity to local businesses and businesses with a connection to Ardmore to erect signage at the side of the pitch for which they will pay an annual sponsorship amount to the club, in line with the package they choose. There are three options available and we hope to fill the remaining spots as soon as possible. Anyone businesses interested should contact Henry Murphy on 086-8536512.

All County Hurling League Division 7 – FINAL

At the time of writing we await the result of the above. Best of luck to Mike Murray and his charges in this final being played in Colligan against Ballydurn. Here’s hoping for the first big win of the season!

Juvenile Update

Well done to our U8 panel who played in the all-county U8 football blitz in Kilrossanty on Saturday. They played, Lismore, St. Mary's East and Stradbally and acquitted themselves very well in three competitive games. Thanks to the county GDA's for organising and Kilrossanty for hosting.

The U11s took place in 2 game fixture in Abbeyside last Monday and the boys played with great marking and skill throughout.

The U12s played Clonea G last Sunday morning and despite playing really well in the second half were behind at the whistle.

Camogie Under 12

Our Under 12 team travelled to Clonea last Thursday to play their next league match. It was a very tough game and our girls displayed great skill and really worked hard together as a team. There was very little between the two teams at the final whistle. It’s back to the training pitch now to prepare for their next game.

Camogie Under 14

Our Under 14s will take on Ballyduff Lower away this Tuesday, throw in is at 6.30pm.

Camogie Under 16

The Under 16 team took on Ballyduff Upper last Thursday in a home game and got off to a blistering start clocking up some great early scores. Our g

oalie and backline worked tirelessly to hold off the Ballyduff attack keeping their scores to a minimum. Our midfield pairing worked extremely hard and provided the forwards with quality passes resulting in some exceptional scores up front. When the final whistle blew, we proved convincing winners on a scoreline of 8.18 to 2.4.

Condolences

The club and community of Ardmore & Grange were deeply saddened this week to learn from across the Atlantic of the untimely passing of Matt Troy.  Matt was the beloved son of Paulie who left these shores in the eighties to begin a new life in Boston.  The Troy family connection to Deuglán Naofa goes back to the 1980’s, when the present field owned by the Troy family became the new home of Ardmore GAA Club. If we ever had the opportunity to be twinned with a City, it would be Boston as so many local family names took to Boston and made it, their, home-from-home. Our clubman Paulie was one of those, who moved to Boston some 39 years ago and linked up with his lifelong friend Mike McGrath where both worked and made Boston their adopted hometown. Paulie, his wife Desiree and family often frequented Ardmore in the summer months. Matt would have had fond memories of his time in Ardmore with all his cousins and extended family in Ardmore & Curragh. Matt grew up in Quincy and always wished to be a firefighter in Boston. As part of that journey, Matt first became a US Marine and once his military service was completed, he joined the Boston fire Department.  Matt was just 30 years old when sadly in 2022, he was diagnosed with cancer. His positive attitude prevailed throughout his battle, even during his final weeks in the hospital. He was an avid sportsman with Ice Hockey his passion. In 2022 the Quincy Fire Department faced off against their counterparts from Boston in support of Matt's cancer fight, a game that was attended by family members and friends from Ardmore. On behalf of Deuglán Naofa GAA Club, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Paulie, his wife Desiree and to Matts sisters Sarah & Emily and his wife Rachel and the extended Troy family here and in the US at this sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

All County Hurling League Division 7 - FINAL

Best of luck to our adult squad who have certainly picked up in 2024 where they left off in 2023 - they will play in what will hopefully be the first of a number of finals this season, when they take on Ballydurn in the league final in Bushy Park next Sunday. The match is fixed for a 12 noon start. Come along and support the lads!

Juvenile Update

It was a relatively quiet week on the juvenile front. Our U9s however did enjoy some game time when they travelled to Kirwan Park in Touraneena on Saturday to take on Naomh Brid in a hurling and football double header. The team gave it their all in increasingly wet conditions and can be proud of their efforts.

The Nursery Group (Well Kids) took advantage of a free main pitch on Sunday morning where, as usual, big numbers attended and the kids enjoyed some of their usual activities and a game of hurling and football to entertain the many Dad's in attendance for Father’s Day!

This week, the U11s are the first into action on Monday evening with a 2 game fixture in Abbeyside.  The U13s are due to play St. Olivers in the hurling league on Wednesday while the U12s are due to play Clonea G in Ardmore on Friday evening in their hurling league.

Excavation works commenced last week around the clubhouse as part of the Club and Community Car Park project.

On completion, the carpark will provide approximately 60 designated car-parking spaces. The club will be financing a significant amount of this work and will be looking for the support of the community in so doing. Maximising sales of our Déise Draw tickets is critical to the club this year with €63 from each sale staying with the club. We look forward to your support on this fabulous project.

All County Hurling League Division 7.

Our squad had a very competitive game against Abbeyside / Ballinacourty in the league last Sunday, losing out by the narrowest of margins.

Juvenile Update

Our U8s enjoyed a trip to Ballinameela on Saturday, where they played a three match hurling blitz. They played Naomh Brid, Cappoquin /Affane and Lismore in three lovely games of hurling.

The U10s headed to Fourmilewater for a football blitz where the group again showed great improvements.

The U12s played a league game against Clashmore last Friday evening performed well despite the absence of a number of players through injury.

Camogie Under 12

Our Under 12 team travelled to Bushy Park last Thursday to take on a strong Brickey Rangers side. It was a very tight game with both teams giving it their all and considering some of our girls have just moved up from Under 10 this year, they are really starting to gel together as a team. We were very unfortunate to only lose out by a single point at the final whistle.

Camogie Under 14

The Under 14’s took to the field against a very tough Lismore side last Thursday on a lovely sunny evening in Ardmore. It proved to be a thrilling game of camogie with both sides very evenly matched. It was a great team performance with our backs very strong in defence and our midfield duo driving us forward in attack allowing our forwards to pick off some great scores. The girls were ahead with only minutes to spare and were very unlucky to concede two goals in the dying minutes of the game. They will take on Ballyduff Lower away in their next game on the 27th of June.

Work commences around the clubhouse this week on the eagerly awaited upgraded car parking facilities. The works will rectify the significant drainage problems that exist on the site. In addition, the issue of parking in the broader since which is an annual source of frustration in the village over the Summer months, will be addressed. This project works in tandem with the Councils proposal to complete a pedestrian walkway from Deuglán Naofa club grounds into the centre of the village, and other proposed village enhancements announced recently as part of a €3.25 million package under the Rural Regeneration & Development Fund. The car parking upgrade will comprise three main elements;

  • The existing grassed area will be stripped, drainage installed, after which it will be covered with stone and finished with a double layer of surface dressing, and lining.

  • The existing driveway and car park will be levelled and scraped and then surfaced dressed and lined

Juvenile Update

Our Under 15 hurlers played in the Féile qualifiers in Bohadoon last Monday evening. We put in a great performance against Kilrossanty and were unlucky not to take the win in what was a very close game. St. Pats proved to be stronger opponents in the second game and with many players missing, and no subs available, the back-to-back games tested our boys. To give them credit they never gave up and put over some lovely scores. The U15s now turn their attention to training for the hurling championship, with the first round scheduled for the third week of June.

Our U12s played Tramore in the football championship and where a slow start cost them the match but this is something they will learn from.  The U12s switch to hurling this Friday evening when they play Clashmore /Kinsalebeing in Clashmore at 6.30pm. Our U10s will travel to Jamie Barron country next Saturday for a 4-team blitz. Our U11s hosted St.Marys and Lismore on bank holiday Monday in a football blitz and played some great football showing just great improvement with each game.  Ardmore hosted two very good U9 teams in Cappoquin and An Ghaeltacht last Saturday. Under glorious sunshine, our group gave it their all in both games and will have learned a huge amount from these games.

Under 8 and 10

Our Under 8’s and 10’s travelled to Butlerstown on Monday to take part in their second blitz of the year where they took on Ferrybank, Newtown Ballydurn and Butlerstown. It was a really enjoyable day for the girls and they all played extremely well in all three games. Thank you to Butlerstown for being such great hosts.

Go Games Exhibition Match

Our Under 10’s were delighted to be selected to play in an exhibition match at half time in the Waterford V Limerick camogie game last Saturday. They lined out against Ballyduff Lower and done a superb job of displaying all the skills they’ve learned at training. They also got to meet their heroes and get their jerseys signed after the game. It was a fantastic experience for the girls and we would like to thank Waterford camogie for inviting us to take part on the day.

Juvenile Update

Our Under 8s, Under 9s and Under 10s were busy on the football blitz circuit last week with the Under 9s playing a two-match blitz in Ballydurn last Tuesday evening, putting on two fine performances in their matches against St. Marys East and Portlaw.

The Under 8s took a trip to Carriganore on Saturday morning where they played Rathgormack, Dungarvan and Clashmore displaying some of the great skills they are developing as the season progresses.

The Under 10s were next up with a home blitz on Sunday morning, where they gathered the spoils in their two games against Clashmore and St. Olivers, after some galant tackling, great passing and impressive scoring that Jimmy McGuiness would be proud of!

Switching to hurling, a very determined Under 11 side got the better of Clashmore at home on Wednesday evening and the Under 12s came very close to a win against De La Salle on Friday evening in the hurling league, and certainly couldn’t be faulted for effort.

Camogie Under 8 and 10

Our Under 8 and 10s will travel to Butlerstown this bank holiday to take part in their second blitz of the year where they will play three games against Butlerstown, Ferrybank and Newtown Ballydurn.

Camogie Under 13

Our Under 13s played a challenge match last Friday against a very strong Youghal side and after an extremely tough game where our girls gave everything they had, we were delighted to finish out with a 3 point win at the final whistle. Tough challenges like this one will really stand to our girls as they progress in the league.

Camogie Under 14 and Under 16

Our Under 14 team took on the Brickey Rangers last Thursday in Ardmore and got off to a great start clocking up some lovely early scores. It was a fabulous team effort with some great passages of play throughout. We finished out the game convincing winners in the end. This team are really starting to come together and all their efforts at training are paying off. They will now face Lismore this Thursday in Ardmore at 6.30pm. Our Under 16s play their re-scheduled fixture against Cappoquin this Tuesday evening at 6.30pm.

Primary Games

Our girls had great success representing their schools this week with Mary Kate Keevers and Saoirse Kinsella taking part in the primary game match at half time in the Waterford v Limerick game last Sunday. A fantastic achievement girls. Congratulations also to Charlie, Annie, Ava, Molly and Maisie who were part of the Pobail Scoil first year team who beat Mitchelstown in the Cork County schools final. Well done girls another brilliant achievement.

We had a comfortable 7 point victory over Clonea last Saturday evening in what was a tough away game overall, with the final scoreline 2-20 to 0-19. This win guarantees the squad a place in the league final against either St. Saviours or Ballydurn.

County Duty

Luke Hennessy was in action with the Waterford minor footballers again last Saturday when the squad travelled to the Faithful Fields in Offaly where they took on the home county team in the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship Preliminary Quarter Final. Luke put in a fine performance scoring 1-1 from his mid-field position, with Waterford having a convincing win of 2-10 to 0-8. This win put the side in the draw for the All-Ireland Tier 3 Quarter final.

Juvenile Update

Our Under 15 football team played Ballyduff Lower in their divisional semi-final last Tuesday evening. We had an understrength side due to multiple injuries. The team put in a great effort but were ultimately beaten by stronger opponents. We wish Ballyduff Lower the best in the final. The U15s now turn their attention to training for the hurling championship, with the first round scheduled for the third week of June.

Our U12s played Ferrybank away last Friday evening in their hurling league. A single point separated the sides at half-time, but Ferrybank got the better of the second half exchanges and were comfortable winners at the final whistle.

Camogie - Upcoming Fixtures

The Under 16s take on Ballyduff Upper in a home game this Tuesday evening in Ardmore at 6.30pm, while our Under 14s will play Brickeys at home on Thursday evening also at 6.30pm.  Come along and show your support for the girls!

Lucky Dip €20 winners were Ronnie Hennessy (seller – Ardmore PO), Thomas Keane, Samantha Power, Angela Bree and Pat Hallahan (online purchases). The club are now offering 3 Lotto Tickets for €5.   All County Hurling League – Division 7

We recorded another win last weekend in the All County Hurling League, taking the points with an impressive performance at home against St. Saviours. It was a tough game of hurling with very little between the sides, with Ardmore leading at half-time on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-10. The second half was hard fought and low scoring before we eventually came away with a 5 point win, final scoreline being 1-17 to 0-15. It was a game that should bring us on a lot before our next day out which is an away fixture against Clonea next Saturday 18th of May at 7pm.

Juvenile Update

Our 15 football team play the Division 5 semi-final this Tuesday evening against Ballyduff Lower. We have number of players unavailable to us through injury which will make it a challenging fixture but no doubt our boys will work hard to get the win.

Our U13s played Gaultier in Ardmore on Wednesday evening last in the football league. Gaultier are top of the league, having won all their matches so our boys were up against it from the outset. They enjoyed some good spells of football throughout the game but Gaultier were comfortable winners of the game. This group had their second football game of the week last Sunday away to Clashmore where they played their best football to date this year with only three scores separating the sides at the final whistle.  They now await details of the Plate Final which they will play against Ferrybank later this month. The U12s had a great game against Stradbally on Friday evening, with eighteen players togged out on the night and all getting game time. The U12s switch to hurling this Friday evening when we take on Ferrybank away.

The U11s played a competitive game against Modeligo last Monday evening. We had just enough players available to us to make a team and the boys fought hard throughout. After a well-earned weekend off to celebrate Holy Communion, our U9s are back in football blitz action next weekend in Bonmahon / Kill. Best of luck to all our juvenile players in this week’s games!

Camogie Under 12

Our Under 12 team took part in their grading blitz last Sunday on a lovely sunny evening in Ardmore. The girls done extremely well in all their games and this will dictate which division they will take part in for the coming year. They played three matches against Ballyduff Lower, Dungarvan and Brickey Rangers.

Camogie Under 14

Our Under 14 team continued on their winning ways beating St. Annes in Kill last Tuesday evening. It was a really close contest with very tight marking throughout making it very difficult to get scores on the board. However our girls battled extremely hard without panicking knowing the scores would eventually come and their hard work paid off when they finished out winners at the final whistle. They will now turn their attention to their next game against the Brickeys at home on May 16th at 6.30pm.

Our adult team were in action last Wednesday evening when they took on Ballydurn away in Newtown. The squad earned a good win , clocking up an impressive scoreline of 2-21 to Ballydurn’s 0-10. This is our second win in this league after beating Ballygunner last time out. It was good to see our next crop of young lads out of minor doing well with Sean Power and Liam Lynch playing very well on the night. Liam Higgs was not available due to injury against Ballydurn but had a very good game in the previous match. We take on St. Saviours at home in our next game this Sunday at 12:00 at the pitch. Come along and show your support!

Juvenile Update

Our 15 football team took on Clashmore last Wednesday evening where we felt the loss of the number of players unavailable to us through injury.

The U13s have a busy week playing catch up on the games missed due to bad weather. They play Gaultier in Ardmore on Wednesday evening at 6.30pm and away to Clashmore at 11 am next Sunday morning. The U12s played Ballyduff Lower last Friday night in a game that won’t be forgotten in a hurry. The boys played a great game, hitting the net three times, in a match where VAR would have been busy! This Friday night, the U12s take on Stradbally, this time a home game for us in Ardmore at 6.30pm. The Under 9’s played a fine game of football in Clashmore last Saturday morning, showing some brilliant skills of the game. We had 12 players in total and everyone one played really well and showed huge improvement.

The U8s to U11s enjoy a break this coming weekend as they swap the jerseys for more formal wear as we celebrate First Holy Communion in the parish. Best wishes to all who will take their First Holy Communion next Saturday. Hope they and their families wonderful day!

Camogie Under 8 and 10

Our Under 8 and 10 teams took part in their first blitz of the year last Monday in Ballyduff Upper. We played four games in total against Newtown Ballydurn, Cappoquin, Tallow and Ballyduff Upper. It was an extremely enjoyable day out for the girls and a great chance to put into practice everything they have learned at training. Thanks to our hosts for a brilliant morning of camogie..

Camogie Under 14

Our Under 14 team clocked up a great win against St. Mollerans last Tuesday in our home grounds. It was a brilliant performance from our girls as St. Mollerans have always been a very tough side but the girls dug deep and all their hard work at training paid off when we finished out winners at the final whistle on a scoreline of 5.4 to 2.2. Well done to all involved.  Their next game will be away to St. Annes on May 7th followed by Brickeys at home on May 16th.

Juvenile Update

Our 15 football team took part in Féile which the weather finally allowed to take place last Sunday morning in Leamybrien.  We were beaten by Ballyduff Lower in the semi-final before beating St. Pat's in the second game. We return to championship action in this age group on Wednesday night in Clashmore.

The U13s and U12s had a rest from play this week with both being given walkovers.

On Monday evening last our U11 hurlers travelled to Leamybrien where they played two games against Kilrossanty and Stradbally. Both games were competitive with very little between the teams. We had 13 players that attended and all played their part. The Under 10’s played a football blitz in Tallow on Saturday. We had 9 players in total and everyone one played really well and showed huge improvement since the last blitz. They played St. Pats and Cois Brid in two competitive games and did very well in both with some great attacking football played. Well done also to the U8's who played, Cois Bhride, St. Mary's and St. Oliver's in a blitz in Cappoquin on Saturday. Great to see the skills improving with every game.

Camogie Under 16

The Under 16 championship started last Thursday for St Declan’s and as this was our first time entering an under 16 team it was great to get a win. It was a hard fought battle against Portlaw but the girls managed to gain the advantage in the end. Well done girls.

County Duty

Luke Hennessy enjoyed his first Munster Minor Football Championship win in the Déise jersey last Tuesday night in Leamybrien, when Waterford beat Limerick 3-10 to 0-13. Luke has recorded really solid performances in all three championship matches to date, and no doubt there’ll be plenty more to come in the upcoming games with the team now advancing to the new tier three All Ireland series next month. In the interim Luke’s attention will return to club hurling when Ardmore minors take on Roanmore in Ardmore this Tuesday evening at 7pm.

Birthday Wishes

The Club extends huge congratulations to Paddy Foley, College Road, on recently celebrating his 90th birthday. Paddy was a founding member of the club 67 years ago, and he along with the Foley family have contributed enormously on and off the pitch to the club over the decades. Lá breithe sona duit a Phádraig!

Juvenile Update

The first nursery session the season took place last Sunday under beautiful Ardmore sunshine. It was great to see some new faces in the mix and we look forward to growing numbers over the next few weeks. The sessions are from 10.30am to 11.30am each Sunday.

Our Under 9s took part in their first football blitz of the year in Abbeyside last Saturday morning where they played Ballinacourty and An Ghaeltacht. The boys will have lots of more blitzes to look forward to over the coming weeks.

Our U12s enjoyed a well-earned win in their first hurling league game of the season when they played Stradbally last Friday evening. The group have showed great improvement this year and no doubt will progress further throughout the season. Their second hurling league match is this Friday evening at home against Tramore.

Unfortunately, due to lack of numbers our U13s had to concede a walkover last Wednesday. They will be looking to bounce back into action this week when they meet Ferrybank on Wednesday evening in Ardmore at 6.30pm.

The U15s had a good week last week recording their second consecutive win when they beat Kilrossanty scoring a half dozen goals during the game. This group will take part in Féile next Sunday with the venue yet to be announced.

Camogie Fèile Na nGael

Our Under 15 team played host to the Fèile C Group 1 last Saturday. Our first match was against a very strong Portlaw side who subsequently went on to win Group C. After a slow start we eventually got into the game but our efforts were in vain when Portlaw finished out winners on a scoreline of 2-7 to 2 goals. Shaking off the disappointment of the first match we came out a lot stronger in our second game against Ferrybank and played much better camogie. We were very unlucky to concede a last-minute goal which saw Ferrybank crowned the winners at the final whistle on a scoreline of 2-1 to 1-1.  Well done to all involved and a special thank you to Gavin Whelan for referring on the day and to Nicky Keating for doing such a good job preparing the pitch and facilities for us on the day.

Camogie Training

Training resumed last Tuesday for all ages and it was fantastic to see so many new and old faces back on the field again enjoying their camogie. Anyone new to the sport and interested in getting involved is more than welcome to come and join in every Tuesday at 6.30pm.

Condolences

The club would like to extend our deepest sympathies to our underage coach and good friend Trish Murphy who sadly lost her mother Sheila last week. She was a lovely woman who always had a smile and friendly word for whoever she met. Trish and her husband Henry are a huge part of our club and are always there with a helping hand when needed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Trish and all the Coady family at this very difficult time.

County Duty

Luke Hennessy will continue his Waterford Minor Football campaign this week when they play Limerick in Lemybrien on Tuesday evening. Luke will swap his familiar Number 9 jersey for Number 12 on the half forward line. Waterford lost their second-round tie to Tipperary last week so will be keen to get a win out of this fixture. Luke once again had a fine game last Tuesday, contributing a number of well taken points including one fisted over the bar!

Ardmore defender Jack Keane and the Waterford Senior Football squad take on Clare in the Munster Senior Football Championship Semi Final clash in Fraher Field at 6pm on Saturday evening, in a game that will surely have a great attendance spurred on by their win in the first round.

Club Meeting

An important club meeting is to be held this Thursday at the clubhouse at 7:45pm. A number of items need approval, among them the proposal in respect of the upgrading of the club grounds. Looking forward to seeing as many of the committee members as possible in attendance.

Juvenile Club Championships

Our Under 15 footballers will look for their second win of the year this week when they take on Kilrossanty in Lemybrien. Their match against Ballyduff Lower was postponed on Sunday due to an unplayable pitch.

The U13 match against Clashmore and the U11 game against Brickeys were also both postponed for similar reasons.

The U12s played Portlaw on Friday evening and had some good performances and enjoyed some good spells of football but were beaten on the night by a fine display of football from Portlaw. The U10s too defied the weather to get some game time and took part in a football blitz in Ring on Saturday morning where they played three matches, playing great football and showing great determination.

The Late Eileen O’Donnell – In Ómós Do Chara Deuglán Naofa

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the sad and untimely passing of Eileen O’Donnell of Ardo. Eileen was a cherished friend of Deuglán Naofa GAA Club and worked tirelessly in many different roles over the decades, from player to secretary to treasurer, working away behind the scenes to make things happen. The O’Donnell family are indeed a cornerstone of Deuglán Naofa GAA Club, generously giving many hours of their time to the club week on week.

Eileen captained the Ardmore ladies team that beat Fenor in a county football final in 1986, playing the captain’s part in style as she herself hit the back of the net with a fine goal on the day. After her playing days ended, Eileen remained the most loyal volunteer and supporter across the GAA, Camogie and LGFA.  She will be greatly missed in the community, where she was held in the highest of regards by all.

We would like to express our deepest sympathy to Eileen’s husband Jamesie, her son James and his wife April, her daughter Mary and her husband Kieran, her brother-in-law John and all the extended Power and O'Donnell families. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.

County Duty

Luke Hennessy will wear the Number 9 jersey again this Tuesday evening with the Waterford Minor Footballers, when they play Tipperary in the second round of the Munster Championship in Lemybrien. Luke and the team lost last Tuesday evenings match against Clare in the cruellest fashion, a last second of the match point from Clare being the difference between the teams at the final whistle.  While the result may not have gone their way, Luke can be very proud of a great personal performance across the 60 minutes. We wish the group the best of luck for their first win of the championship this Tuesday.

Congratulation to Jack Keane and the Waterford Senior Football Squad who had an historic win in the Munster Championship at the weekend recording their first victory over rivals Tipperary since 1988.

Juvenile Club Championships

Our Under 15s started their season with a great match against Tramore where they ran out comprehensive winners on a score line of 7-11 to 2-02. The team was Daithí Power, Oisín Mansfield, Eoghan Murphy, Jack Gleeson, Padraig Foley, Edward Breen, Aaron McNamara, Charlie Power, Seán Flavin, Jimmy Keevers, Séamus Twomey, Paudie Keane and Sean MacSweeney. Lots of good football played and very good performances across the field. All of the backs played well with Eoghan, Padraig, Jack, Edward and Oisín all having excellent outings as did our midfielders Charlie and Aaron. Up front we got some superb scores, Jimmy got 4 goals, Paudie 3 pts, Sean MacSweeney 1/01, Jack 1/01, Aaron 1 pt, Padraig Foley 3 pts, Edward got a goal when moved up in the 2nd half and Daithí and Séamus both registered points as well. Special thanks to Cathal Foley who answered the call in the second half.

The U13s came up a against a strong St. Oliver’s side in their first match of the football championship last Wednesday evening and will be hoping for a better outcome when they meet Clashmore in the 2nd round this Wednesday evening.

The U12s took on Clashmore on Friday evening and were unlucky not to win in a very tight game. They play Portlaw at home in their next match on Friday evening.

The poor weather and subsequent poor pitch conditions put paid to a number of the U9 and U11 fixtures. Hopefully these age groups will get up and running with games over the coming week.

Football League

Ardmore played their second game of the Division 3 Football League at home against Newtown Saturday. It was a closely fought game all the way through and the win was ultimately decided b last y a great goal from the boot of young Eddie Flavin. The final scoreline was Ardmore 1-13 to Newtown’s 0-9. Attention now turns to the hurling league for the next two weeks with our first game against Ballydurn away next Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m.

County Duty

Deuglán Naofa clubmen will see plenty of action with the County jersey in the coming week. Luke Hennessy will start at midfield with the County Minor Football Team when they take on Clare in the first round of the Munster Championship on Tuesday evening in Quilty in Co. Clare. Luke is keeping a good Hennessy family tradition of inter county duty going in style. Luke’s grandad, John Hennessy was inducted into the Munster GAA Hall of Fame with a remarkable record of three Railway Cup winning medals with Munster in 1975, 1977 and 1978. Like Luke, Grandad John was a midfielder and lined out at midfield for Waterford throughout the 1970s and was a key figure in the Déise’s promotion to Division 1 of the NFL during that decade. John was also a selector in 2003 when the Deise Footballers won the Munster Under-21 Football final where Luke’s Uncle Niall was team captain on that day! We wish Luke and the Waterford squad every success in the upcoming championship!

Our stalwart defender Jack Keane will be part of the Waterford panel that play Tipperary in the Munster Senior Football Championship next Sunday, in what will be a tough fixture for the side.

Juvenile Club Championships

There’s plenty of action this week for the juveniles with the U15s in action against Tramore in the first round of the football championship. Ardmore take on St. Olivers in the first round of the U13 football championship on Wednesday evening in Ardmore at 6.30pm, while the U12s will travel to Clashmore on Friday evening for the first match in the Déise Óg U12 Football league.

Football League

Ardmore lost their opening game of the Division 3 Football League away to Kill last Saturday on a scoreline of 4-11 to 2-9. We played some good football at times but unfortunately the absence of too many established players was to prove too much of an uphill task. Great to see some of our minors from last year making the step up to adult football with Sean Power chipping in with a late goal on his debut. Our next match is against Newtown next Saturday in Ardmore at 4 o clock.

County Duty

Waterford’s Under 20 Football team featuring our goalkeeper Conor Moore took on Limerick in their second match of the championship last Saturday. The scoreline on the day was 2-7 to 2-6, and while Limerick will have been regarded as the stronger side, Waterford’s tenacity certainly made them earn their win. Gavin Whelan’s side have one game left against Tipperary, but regardless of the result are guaranteed a spot in the B final (3rd v 4th).

SCÓR na bPáistí

Congratulations to Ultan, Thomas, James and Cathal who came 2nd in the Tráth na gCeist in what was a huge competition for Scór na bPáistí where there were over 11 groups entered. The boys have one more year left to try and get the gold medal so the quiz books will be worked hard for the year ahead! Hard luck but huge well done to Emily, Laura and Chloe who played a couple of lovely tunes in the Ceol Uirlíse section. Again a huge competition with 12 instrumental groups entered with the high standard of all the competitors being noted by the judges. Under 15 Camogie County Champions Big Day Out!

Our camogie squad enjoyed a fun day at Castlecomer Discovery Park last Saturday before returning to the clubhouse for the presentation of their 2023 U15 County Championship medals. A very special guest from the Waterford Senior Camogie Squad, Keeley Corbett Barry was on hand to do the honours. Thanks to Michelle O’Neill and Lindsey Prendergast for organising this memorable day for the girls. Looking forward to even more medal presentations in 2024!

County Duty

Well done to Conor Moore who wore the Number 1 jersey for the Waterford Under 20 Footballers last Saturday in Lemybrien when they took on Clare. The side were beaten by 0-13 to 0-6. They play their next match next Saturday against Limerick. Conor has had a busy Spring in the goals where he featured with Dungarvan CBS in the Division 4 Secondary Schools Championships where they reached the semi-finals, bowing out at that stage to Gallen Community School of Ferbane.

Call for County Duty!

The Club would like to extend congratulations to Oisín O’Dwyer who made the final cut for the Waterford Under 20 panel. Oisín was a key part of our Junior A Hurling winning team in 2023 and his displays have rightly earned him a position on the panel where his skills and strength will benefit the squad. We wish Oisín the best of luck with his Déise exploits in 2024.
