Condolences

The club and community of Ardmore & Grange were deeply saddened this week to learn from across the Atlantic of the untimely passing of Matt Troy.  Matt was the beloved son of Paulie who left these shores in the eighties to begin a new life in Boston.  The Troy family connection to Deuglán Naofa goes back to the 1980’s, when the present field owned by the Troy family became the new home of Ardmore GAA Club. If we ever had the opportunity to be twinned with a City, it would be Boston as so many local family names took to Boston and made it, their, home-from-home. Our clubman Paulie was one of those, who moved to Boston some 39 years ago and linked up with his lifelong friend Mike McGrath where both worked and made Boston their adopted hometown. Paulie, his wife Desiree and family often frequented Ardmore in the summer months. Matt would have had fond memories of his time in Ardmore with all his cousins and extended family in Ardmore & Curragh. Matt grew up in Quincy and always wished to be a firefighter in Boston. As part of that journey, Matt first became a US Marine and once his military service was completed, he joined the Boston fire Department.  Matt was just 30 years old when sadly in 2022, he was diagnosed with cancer. His positive attitude prevailed throughout his battle, even during his final weeks in the hospital. He was an avid sportsman with Ice Hockey his passion. In 2022 the Quincy Fire Department faced off against their counterparts from Boston in support of Matt's cancer fight, a game that was attended by family members and friends from Ardmore. On behalf of Deuglán Naofa GAA Club, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Paulie, his wife Desiree and to Matts sisters Sarah & Emily and his wife Rachel and the extended Troy family here and in the US at this sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Works Commenced on our Club and Community Car Park

Works are progressing well on the car-park project, with excavations nearly completed, and the surfacing works to commence in the coming days. Thanks to all in the community for getting behind this project.

Déise Draw Tickets

Please support our club by purchasing a Déise Draw ticket! With the ongoing development around the club grounds, your support is vital for this and future works as set out in Club Plan. With €63 from each sale staying with the club, there’s no better way to pledge your support.

Signage Sponsorship

We are delighted to say there is significant support for Deuglán Naofa’s signage sponsorship campaign. The proposal provides a great opportunity to local businesses and businesses with a connection to Ardmore to erect signage at the side of the pitch for which they will pay an annual sponsorship amount to the club, in line with the package they choose. There are three options available and we hope to fill the remaining spots as soon as possible. Anyone businesses interested should contact Henry Murphy on 086-8536512.

All County Hurling League Division 7 - FINAL

Best of luck to our adult squad who have certainly picked up in 2024 where they left off in 2023 - they will play in what will hopefully be the first of a number of finals this season, when they take on Ballydurn in the league final in Bushy Park next Sunday. The match is fixed for a 12 noon start. Come along and support the lads!

Juvenile Update

It was a relatively quiet week on the juvenile front. Our U9s however did enjoy some game time when they travelled to Kirwan Park in Touraneena on Saturday to take on Naomh Brid in a hurling and football double header. The team gave it their all in increasingly wet conditions and can be proud of their efforts.

The Nursery Group (Well Kids) took advantage of a free main pitch on Sunday morning where, as usual, big numbers attended and the kids enjoyed some of their usual activities and a game of hurling and football to entertain the many Dad's in attendance for Father’s Day!

This week, the U11s are the first into action on Monday evening with a 2 game fixture in Abbeyside.  The U13s are due to play St. Olivers in the hurling league on Wednesday while the U12s are due to play Clonea G in Ardmore on Friday evening in their hurling league.

Camogie Training

Training will take place for all ages Tuesday at 6.30pm, all new members are welcome.
