Brave Rally Seals County Title for Juveniles U 16 in Lemybrien Thriller
Our Juvenile squad signed off their season in style on Wednesday night, capturing the county final in a wet and windswept Lemybrien with a hard-fought 3-08 to 3-06 victory over Clashmore.
In dreadful conditions, both teams served up an outstanding contest. Clashmore opened the scoring with the first two points, but once we settled, our forwards found their range. Points from Charlie and Jack, followed by a superbly taken goal from Séamus, put us in a strong position midway through the half. However, we failed to push on while on top, and Clashmore finished the half impressively, hitting 2-02 in the closing minutes to lead 2-03 to 1-02 at the interval.
Facing a four-point deficit and a stiff breeze in the second half, our task looked daunting. But the team showed real character, with early points from Aaron and John narrowing the gap. Just as momentum seemed to be swinging our way, Clashmore struck for 1-02, pushing their advantage to 3-06 to 1-04 with twelve minutes remaining.
What followed was a remarkable response. Three unanswered points from John, Aaron, and Padraig brought us back within five, setting up a frantic finale. With time running out, full back Paudi Keane pushed forward and produced a heroic burst, scoring 2-01 in the dying minutes to turn the game on its head. A last-ditch goalmouth clearance preserved the lead, sealing a memorable county title.
The victory was all the more impressive given the absence of Eoin, Conor, and both Seán’s through injury. It capped a superb year for the group, who won 13 of their 14 championship matches across hurling and football.
